Day 8 in Melbourne
The day passes so quickly when we are busy doing things. It feels so different from the first 3 days where i sit in the office all day long. Today, the first thing i did was continue my reaction from yesterday. Did extraction all the way till lunch time which was like 3 whole hours. After lunch, did column for Galactose only as there was not enough time for doing column for Glucose. Choosing a suitable solvent is actually beneficial. It can not only save time, it will only collect the fractions with products in the first few test tubes. The Rf value of the product should be between 0.2-0.7. Today, i did a column which uses 50 test tubes and the fractions which contains my product is from 21-48. It was super long but the fractions that i collected is very pure. The whole column plus concentrating took up about 4 and a half hour long. Brendan said that he will teach me the correct way of doing a column chromatography which i'll be listening to very attentively. My lab partners are very patience and friendly towards me and my supervisor is very patience and do not blame me for my mistakes. The worst thing is that i broke 2 test tubes T_T
Finally its the end of week 1 of internship! 11 more weeks to go~ Its finally the weekends~ Time to go out and do some shopping and sight seeing :)
